App State was one of the favorites to win the Sun Belt going into this season. And the Mountaineers didn’t do anything to make people doubt that last week when they beat East Tennessee State 38-10 in their season opener.
App State could further bolster their case as a contender for the Group of Five College Football Playoff spot when they go on the road to play No. 25-ranked Clemson. The Tigers began the year with a 34-3 loss against Georgia at home.
If the Tigers don’t stay focused and bounce back, they could be looking at another disappointing result.

App State vs. Clemson Prediction
I predict App State will win and cover the spread at +17. I also project the game will go Over 53.5 total points.
Of all the G5 vs. P4 games this week, I think there’s got to be at least one upset. And I think this could be the matchup for that.
App State is loaded with talent. We knew that all offseason. The Mountaineers had six G5 Preseason All-Americans like wide receiver Kaedin Robinson and quarterback Joey Aguilar.
But with stars on defense like defensive back Ethan Johnson, App State was also expected to be great on the other side of the ball as well.
The question is how Clemson will respond after its lopsided loss last week. I could see the Tigers being angry and motivated to not lose back-to-back contests. I could also see them struggling to get over last week and not focusing on their G5 opponent.
I believe Aguilar, who threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two more scores last week in a win over East Tennessee State, is well equipped to handle the environment and the moment. With a quarterback like him, explosive playmakers, and a stout defense going against a team that went through a letdown performance recently, I think App State could pull off a victory here.
