Boise State is widely regarded as an elite Group of Five squad this season. And the Broncos reinforced that notion with a 56-45 victory at Georgia Southern last week as running back Ashton Jeanty totaled 267 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
The Broncos would certainly help their case for a College Football Playoff spot if they added a Power Four win against a top-10 opponent this week. They take on No. 7-ranked Oregon on the road for Week 2.
A strong performance, especially a win, would certainly boost the Broncos’ postseason hopes as well as any chances Jeanty has of being a Heisman Trophy finalist.

Boise State vs. Oregon Prediction
I predict Oregon will win but Boise State will cover the spread at +19.5. I also project the game will go Under 61.5 total points.
Boise State has the talent to make the CFP at the end of the season. If Maddux Madsen can provide stability at quarterback, that’s all the Broncos will need to have an explosive offense. Jeanty, along with backup running back Sire Gaines, are in a good position to help the Broncos sustain long drives and perhaps control time of possession against Oregon.
I could absolutely see Boise State winning in this game, in fact. But the Broncos’ defense in this clash worries me a bit.
They have standout players on that side of the ball like defensive end Ahmed Hassanein. But the Broncos gave up 45 points and 461 yards to Georgia Southern a week ago. Odds are Oregon is going to be even better offensively.
Yes, the Ducks barely beat Idaho last week in a 24-14 bout. But I expect their offense, led by quarterback Dillon Gabriel, to bounce back.
I think if it’s close late, the Ducks will find a way to win again.
