Wisconsin does not have an easy Big Ten schedule, as the Badgers have to face the likes of USC, Penn State, and Oregon. They’ll also have to take on Alabama in a few weeks.
So starting off with a game against a Group of Five team may seem like an easy way to commence the season on a high note. But Western Michigan, which could be in contention for a MAC Championship this year, is expected to make strides in 2024 and should be a competitive G5 team this season.
Wisconsin may be looking at a closer game than expected.

Western Michigan vs. Wisconsin Prediction
I predict Western Michigan will win and cover the spread at +24.5. I also project the game will go Over 56.5 total points.
There’s bound to be a couple upsets by G5 teams over Power Four squads every season, and I think this could be one of those occasions.
I believe Western Michigan is well suited to take on a team like Wisconsin. WMU’s offense is loaded with talent, including up front with Group of Five Preseason All-Americans Jacob Gideon and Addison West. They should pave the way for running back Jalen Buckley, another G5 Preseason All-American. A solid run game will help WMU control the clock and therefore control the game.
The problem will be how WMU will fare against Wisconsin’s offense. But if the Broncos can cause a couple turnovers, this game could end up being an upset.
