Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2020 fall-2021 spring rosters.
56: Cam Hill, OL (Jr.) — Jacksonville State
A three-star recruit out of Montgomery, Alabama, Hill chose JSU over offers from Kennesaw State, Alabama State, Alcorn State, Morgan State, and Tennessee State along with three FBS offers from Tulane, UMass, and Bowling Green.
He saw action right away as a freshman in 2018, playing in eight games. Hill then earned a starting role in 2019. He started five games but missed six due to injury.
The big 6-foot-1, 305-pound guard had his best season in 2020-21. Starting all 11 games, he earned All-OVC First Team honors as the Gamecocks owned the top offense (394 YPG) and rushing offense (194 YPG) in the conference.
The upcoming schedule is JSU’s toughest in a long time, facing two FBS opponents (UAB and Florida State), going to Kennesaw State and Sam Houston, and hosting Central Arkansas. The Gamecocks should have a solid offensive line, with standout Tylan Grable also being honored on this countdown as the best No. 70.
The unit will take on some strong defensive lines, notably SHSU’s and UCA’s. If JSU wants to make it back to playoffs with this schedule, the o-line playing like the best unit in the AQ7 will be massively important.
