Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2020 fall-2021 spring rosters.
57: Patrick Flynn, OL (Jr.) — New Hampshire
Flynn’s versatility has been important for UNH’s improving offensive line play in recent years. As a redshirt freshman in 2018, he started all 11 games at center.
The next season, the Wildcats moved Flynn to left tackle. UNH allowed 19 sacks in 11 games to rank third in the CAA in sacks allowed as Flynn, who is 6-foot-3 and 296 pounds, was named to the All-Conference Third Team.
“Having Flynnie at tackle last year, out there on the edge, settled us down,” Alex Miller, who was the UNH offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator at the time, said last year.
Flynn entered 2020 on the Preseason All-CAA Second Team. But the fall season was postponed, and UNH was only able to play one game in the spring before cancellations hit hard.
The Wildcats are looking to be back in the playoff discussion again this fall after reaching the postseason every year from 2004-2017.
