Since Ball State was ranked in the AP Top 25 and won a bowl game in 2020 and then reached another bowl game in 2021, the program hasn’t been heading in the right direction under head coach Mike Neu.

The Cardinals were 4-8 in 2023 and were 3-5 in MAC play. But they hope to get back on track this season.

Ball State Head Coach Mike Neu’s Background

Neu had an impressive playing career at Ball State before coaching at his alma mater.

He was the MAC’s Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year as a senior and won the MAC Championship in 1993. He then was a graduate assistant at Ball State the following year and played in the Canadian Football League and Arena Football League from 1995-97.

He was an offensive coordinator for the AFL’s Nashville Kats (1998-99) and Carolina Cobras (2001) and was a head coach in the league for the Augusta Stallions (2000), Cobras (2002), and New Orleans VooDoo (2004-08).

He then coached quarterbacks at Tulane from 2012-13 before working with Drew Brees and Sean Payton as the New Orleans Saints’ QBs coach from 2014-15.
