A new Daily Dose will be published multiple times a week.

NDSU All-American Safety Cole Wisniewski To Miss “Significant Amount Of Time” Due To Foot Injury

NDSU will be without its best player for a “significant amount of time.”

Head coach Tim Polasek said All-American safety and NFL Draft prospect Cole Wisniewski recently had foot surgery, and it is undetermined if he’ll be able to return this season.

Wisniewski will be reevaluated in 8-10 weeks on how his foot is responding. Polasek also noted Wisniewski’s long-term future/NFL aspirations as one factor in the decision on whether he’ll return this year. However, Wisniewski does have a redshirt available if he played in four or fewer games this fall, allowing him to return to college next year.

Wisniewski was PFF’s No. 1-graded FCS/FBS safety last fall, totaling 92 tackles, eight interceptions, and five pass breakups.

The Bison take on Colorado on Thursday, a team led by quarterback Shedeur Sanders that averaged 294.7 passing yards per game last year (No. 16 in the FBS).

NDSU has two other notable injuries:

All-American fullback and long-snapper Hunter Brozio is out with a season-ending foot injury.

Barika Kpeenu, who was expected to be NDSU’s starting running back to begin this season, is battling a knee injury and will be a Wednesday decision on whether he can play this week.

The Bison are currently 9.5-point underdogs at Colorado.

Montana State Gets 1st FCS Over FBS Win Of 2024

Montana State earned the first FCS over FBS win this season, battling back from a 17-point deficit to beat New Mexico 35-31. Scottre Humphrey scored on a four-yard touchdown run with 10 seconds to go. MSU entered the game as a 13.5-point favorite, the biggest FCS over FBS spread since 2013.

The Bobcats rushed for 362 yards, averaging 7.7 yards per carry while Tommy Mellott went 21/32 throwing for 205 yards and two touchdowns.

MSU also enjoyed a guaranteed payout of $360,000.

There are some enticing Week 1 FCS vs. FBS matchups that could result in more victories.
