The first couple years of Mike MacIntyre’s tenure as FIU’s head coach haven’t gone as hoped.

The Golden Panthers went 4-8 both in 2022 and 2023, with a collective 3-13 mark against Conference USA teams during that stretch. But FIU hopes to bounce back and put its first winning season together since 2018 this year.

FIU Head Coach Mike MacIntyre’s Background

MacIntyre has a good amount of experience as a head coach.

Before coming to FIU, MacIntyre was the head coach at Colorado for six years. He was also the head coach for San Jose State for three seasons. Both of those teams reached the AP Top 25 while he was the head coach.

MacIntyre’s time as an assistant was mostly on the defensive side, though he did coach on the offensive side of the ball as well. He was a defensive coordinator at Memphis (2020-21), Ole Miss (2019), Duke (2008-09), UT Martin (1993-96), and Davidson (1992). 

He also coached secondaries at the collegiate and pro levels. He worked with defensive backs at Temple (1997-98 and 2001-02) as well as with the Dallas Cowboys (2003-06) and the New York Jets (2007). He coached wide receivers at Ole Miss from 1999-2000. He began his coaching career at Georgia as a graduate assistant in 1990.
