Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.

4: EJ Perry, QB (Sr.) — Brown
Perry is an elite athlete and one of the top quarterbacks in the FCS.
A two-star recruit out of Andover, Massachusetts, he began his college career at Boston College. After being the No. 2 QB on the depth chart in 2017 and 2018, Perry transferred to Brown and instantly lit it up in 2019.
He led the FCS in total offense with 367.8 yards per game. Perry’s 3,678 total offensive yards set an Ivy League record. The First Team All-Conference selection went 251-of-418 passing for 2,948 yards, 22 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Perry also led the Bears with 730 yards on the ground, adding eight scores with his legs.
After the season concluded, he said why not and joined the Brown basketball team. Yes, he only appeared in two games, but being a two-sport D1 athlete in football and basketball is an impressive feat.
The Ivy League did not play any football games in 2020-21 due to COVID. Some key players across the conference hit the transfer portal, but Perry stayed put. He enters this fall a Preseason Third Team All-American by Stats Perform and HERO Sports. We ranked him the No. 6 returning quarterback.
The 6-foot-2, 210-pounder has a strong arm, can extend plays, and is dangerous running the ball. He will get a shot at the next level and recently was named to the 2022 Reese’s Senior Bowl Watchlist.
