Welcome to the 2021 FCS Jersey Countdown.
Leading up to Week 0 games on Aug. 28, HERO Sports is going to name the best returning FCS player by jersey number, 99-0. Due to rosters being updated at different times for teams across the country and to keep things consistent, jersey numbers are based on the 2020 fall-2021 spring season.
The 99-0 countdown central page can be found here.
Note: Jersey numbers are based on 2020 fall-2021 spring rosters.
63: Toby Sanderson, OL (Sr.) — Central Arkansas
UCA is ready to make some noise nationally this fall.
The 2019 season saw a 9-3 regular-season record and the No. 8 playoff seed. But the Bears lost right away in the second round, 24-14 to Illinois State. Last season, UCA elected to play a full fall schedule and finished 5-4, including competitive losses against NDSU and FBS UAB. The Bears then watched fellow Southland Conference member Sam Houston (a team they beat 29-25 in 2019) win the national championship in the spring.
With a ton of offensive talent back and building off of the experiences in the last two seasons, UCA is poised for a big year and is ranked just outside of our Top 10.
A big part of that offensive talent is athletic center Toby Sanderson.
Sanderson has started at the center spot since 2018 when he was a redshirt sophomore. He grew to be one of the better offensive linemen in the Southland Conference and will be a top big man in the AQ7 this fall.
The 6-foot-2, 300-pound Oklahoma native earned 2019 All-Southland Conference Third Team honors and was named to the First Team last season.
