Mike Houston’s tenure at ECU hasn’t always been smooth. But the Pirates have enjoyed winning seasons twice in the past four years.
Before he went to East Carolina, he was an FCS national champion coach at James Madison. He led the Dukes to a title in 2016 and another championship appearance in 2017. They won two CAA championships during his time there.
Before that, he was the head coach of The Citadel. Houston, who began his coaching career at the high school level, was also the head coach at Lenoir-Rhyne, a Division II collegiate program, from 2011-13. He was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach there from 2007-10 as well and a defensive coordinator and associate head coach at Brevard College in 2006.
