Alabama has Five Players Selected on the Final Day of the NFL Draft

The University of Alabama football team had five players selected on the final day of the 2014 National Football League Draft Saturday afternoon at Radio City Music Hall.

The five selections on Saturday gave Alabama eight players taken in the 2014 NFL Draft, one shy of the Crimson Tide’s modern-era record of nine set last year. Alabama also had eight selections in 1987 and 2012. The Tide had 10 players selected over 30 rounds in 1945. The current NFL Draft is seven rounds in length.

Fifth-year wide receiver Kevin Norwood was the first off the board on Saturday, going to the Seattle Seahawks with the 23rd pick of the fourth round.

The Crimson Tide then had three players taken within eight picks of each other in the fifth round. Ed Stinson was selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 20th pick of the fifth round. Senior quarterback AJ McCarron came off the board just four picks later to the Cincinnati Bengals. Junior safety Vinnie Sunseri was then taken with the 27th pick of the fifth round by the New Orleans Saints.

Jeoffrey Pagan was the final Alabama player selected on Saturday as the Houston Texans took the defensive lineman with the first pick of the sixth round, No. 177 overall.

In the last six NFL Drafts, Alabama has had 41 players selected, including 16 players in first round, five in the second and third rounds, three in the fourth, seven in the fifth, one is the sixth and five in the seventh round.

The Crimson Tide had two players selected in the first round on Thursday evening with C.J. Mosley going to the Ravens at No. 17 and Ha Ha Clinton-Dix taken by the Green Bay Packers at No. 21. Cyrus Kouandjio was selected in the second round of the Draft Friday with the 44th overall pick by the Buffalo Bills.
